play midi files with the detonate object/midiin object

Hello , i’m very new to max so sorry if this is a bit of an inane question but I can’t seem to find an answer online. all I’m trying to do is create a patch that reads/loads/stores a midi file. One thread guided me to the detonate object and Ive also had a little look at the seq and midi in object. however I can find no resource telling me how to actually  put/interface my pre-existing midi files into/with these objects ?

I’m thinking maybe this is a kind of underpinning process thats very obvious if you’ve used max before but I can’t seem to see it online
