ive started making this attached patch which i hope to eventually have play about 36 different samples, some at the same time, depending on what numbers come in to the patch.

so far ive used six different buffers each containing one sample and ive used a umenu with prepend set to quickly switch between the samples.

is there an easier and/or tidier way of doing this? im new-ish to max so i figure there probably is. i ultimately want to have six groups of six samples playing one sample from each group at the same time

While your method isn't necessarily the 'wrong' way of going about things, it could get a little messy when you begin to expand things later on.

The example below uses coll to store and recall the names of your samples rather than the loadbang/message combo you were using. Also, rather than using a buffer per sample this uses one buffer~ and loads a different sample according to which number the coll receives. The advantage of this could be that you never need have more than one buffer~ per groove~.
