I’m trying to play videos (synced) for an installation.
The computers I am using are old : Pentium4, from 1,6 to 3 GHz.
Obviously using the common jitter elements make hiccup, and really too heavy / not reliable.

So,
- is there a way to play videos in a lighter way than using a matrix etc ???
- is it possible to send infos to the “shell” as one could do with pure data, and which syntax should i use to, let’s say, run vlc ?????

thanks :)

or else u can send “shell” commands via various 3rd party objects depending on platform, search shell over at maxobjects.com.

also, there was a basic max movie object in max 4 but dont know if it made it over to 5… not sure if it would be suitable

seems that this “shell” object doesn’t work with Max5
I’ll try with DosHack : http://francois.eudes.free.fr/software.htm
