Problem With MIDI Pluggo Patches

Hi, I had posted this in the pluggo forum, but that forum seems considerably less busy than here, and I’m sure a lot of people here use Pluggo as well.

I am beginning to convert a lot of my patches into plug ins using the spectacular pluggo, but very quickly came across a peculiar problem. it seems that in Ableton Live, whenever I drop a Pluggo plugin into a MIDI track (if it’s a plug in that deals specifically with MIDI, i.e. tutorial 9) the plug in is interpreted as a VST instrument rather than a MIDI effect. If I have another VST or synth loaded into that track, when I add the MIDI effect it kicks the other VST/synth out, which means that it’s for some reason being interpreted as an instrument and not a MIDI effect. When the MIDI effect is dropped into a plan MIDI track, the output is no longer MIDI output, but audio output. I have this problem with the tutorial plug ins (8 and 9), so I know it’s not just my plugs that are causing the problem. Why do I have this problem? What can I do to make MIDI effect plug ins not be interpreted as instruments? Thanks!

Pluggo plugs in Live which are designed output MIDI need to be put on a MIDI track other than the synth track you are trying to control. Then you route the MIDI. This is the way Live the host wants it done.

Even when I put the plug onto a blank MIDI track, it is interpreted as an instrument. The output on a midi track with only a MIDI controlling pluggo reads “Audio To” rather than “MIDI to” as it should. When attempting this, I am using the plug from Pluggo’s tutorial number 9.

Oops – sorry, I had it confused. Make your MIDI processing plug an effect on an audio channel. Then you can send MIDI to it from your MIDI input and get MIDI from it on your synth track.

At least I think that’s it. I have it working like that in front of me now in Live 6. I don’t think they “fixed” this in 7.

Im on Live 7, so things might be different. I tried to do what you said, but it won’t let me put the plug onto an audio track. It says “only audio effects can be inserted into an audio track”.

It’s not any different in 7.

Your plug is a synth. Change it into an effect by deleting the line

#C synth;

in plugconfig.
