Dear all, I am sorry for asking such a newbie question. I am trying to build this additive synth, but I can't make it polyphonic. I've been watching your tutorials (I've tried prepend, pack, thispoly~, all that kind of stuff) but I can't make it working. Could you please help me? Also, every other suggestions (including "mate, you should stop using MaxMsp") is more then welcome :)

The biggest conceptual problem was that the send/receive stuff is all global in scope, and you seemed to think that it was going to be local in scope. I also played with how velocity was applied and with the busy/mute management.

- I am asked to switch between Mono and Poly synth (1 OR 8 voices), is it possible to assign to poly~ a variable number to indicate the number of instances?

- When in mono, I should be able to enable portamento: can I do it in the main patch or shall I do that into the "synth engine"?

- I have a list of values from SNDAN that I got from analysing some real sounds, and I should put them back in the function object. In these lists I have time and amplitude for each harmonic, can I set a message to the input of each function object (or shall I use zl something), and bang each message to get different presets?

You could use attrui connected to poly~ to change then number of voices in a poly~, but it might be better to limit the note stream before it got to poly~

Portamento should be applied inside the poly~ patch. Once you have polyphony, pretty much everything should be indies the poly~

As far as the SNDAN tables, there are lots of ways to approach this. There are trade offs that should be considered before deciding on an approach. coll, dict, pattr could all be successful at storing this info, but I couldn't say what storage type I would choose without more study.

Thanks again, Chris. I was just looking at the previous patches you posted: with your approach, it looks like I can't trigger anymore the release point after the sustain point in the function object. When I release the keys, the note stops without playing the release. I assume that's due to the part in the bottom left of the subpatch (where there is the velocity scaling). Am I correct? Thanks

Yeah, I didn't test very much. The problem was that with the way I was applying velocity, when the note off came in, it set the volume to zero.
