I’m putting together a patch that plays a movie in sync with a 5.1 surround sound track. You basically pick a movie, pick a 6-channel AIF file, and then press the cue points or the Start button on the patch.

It works perfectly on Windows Vista and Windows 7.

However, on Mac OS X (Leopard), the “regular fullscreen” patch shows a strange flickering line along the bottom of the screen.

So I basically hacked together a replacement for the full screen code, the “manual fullscreen” patch. This gets rid of the flickering line, but has several problems:

1) Playback on an external monitor is a little jerky
2) Playback on the laptop screen flickers, very slow frame rate, unless the patch window is in front of the fullscreen window, in which case everything is fine again
3) Audio does not play (bizarre, because this is identical between patches)

Both patches play perfectly on Windows, but have these problems on OS X. Can someone on a Mac have a look, and see if a) they see the same problems and b) have an idea of what is wrong?

The patches are here: http://www.villamil.org/soft/splayer/splayer.zip (unpack everything to a folder)

A test video is here: http://www.villamil.org/soft/splayer/test%20movie.mov
A test audio is here: http://www.villamil.org/soft/splayer/test%20audio.aif

The audio is just me reading out numbers synced to the timecode on the video, to ensure sync.

If worst comes to worst, we’ll just use the regular fullscreen patch and mask out the flickering line by taping the projector lens.

Unfortunately I can’t reproduce the flickering line issues. Didn’t test your workaround patch, but I assume it’s jerky for exactly the bizarre apple compositing engine reasons that led to our one pixel shorter workaround.

5.1.2 should be released soon, which as far as we can tell solves this issue. In the meantime, yes, a physical mask might be necessary. Sorry for the hassle.

Two other potential software workarounds:
1. Keep the window border enabled, but change the window size to match the screen(so that window border isn’t visible on the projector display)

2. You could also try putting a borderless black single pixel high window along the bottom of the projector display.

Well, 5.1.2 solves the issue on the Mac, but now fullscreen is janky on Windows unless you use @border 0.

On Windows, you now have a border where the desktop shows through on the top of the screen, and the taskbar is over the fullscreen display. It didn’t do this on 5.1.1, it worked fine.

Hopefully 5.1.3 will fix this on Windows AND Mac…
