Does anybody actually make rap and hip-hop “beats” with Max/MSP?

But isn’t “inventing” and “hip hop beat” a contradiction?
That’s why it works probably flawless… ;-)

Ouch! I can see why you might think that. There are a lot of songwriters who write beats from scratch, though.

Like any aspect of songwriting, it’s hard. That’s why a lot of producers just use other beats that have already been the basis for hit songs. But there are still many people out there working on writing fresh beats from scratch.

A prominent example of using someone else’s beat (and entire song) was Diddy’s “Every Breath You Take” cover. On the original tip, Eminem’s “Lose Yourself”.

I still think it’s hilarious for someone to think that most of us make beats here, though. Perhaps more so, that they shop beats to anyone. It’s sad when someone takes advantage of people’s dreams to make a buck.

Just my thoughts, though…other ideas?

Amazing stuff. I really liked the hip hop tracks. Either you’re incredibly original, or I am completely disconnected from the electronica/hip-hop genre. Probably both. Great programing, by the way.

thanks, bill. that is very much appreciated!

my apologies to stefan and anthony if i came across too harsh. it’s offensive (and i’m often too sensitive) when someone trivializes someone else’s choice of creative expression.

don’t apologize too much.
there’s definitely an elitist attitude prevalent on these forums for music or software or instruments considered too mainstream, whatever that means.

don’t think anybody really means much harm though…

It does indeed work flawless ;)
Though I’m quite sad my Max 5 demo timed out, I’d rebuilt my previous ‘Virtual Producer’ from my old version of max, the transport object was doing great for it!
As soon as I buy Max 5 and finish the patch, I’ll put it up here because sharing is fun!

I absolutely agree, it was meant as an obviously ignorant statement…

Humor is a requirement to make good music by the way…

This is ignorant as well, I know good musicians without any humor, but
they miss the fun in it…

There is undoubtedly very innovative music in the hip-hop genre, but as
in any musical style of the world, its rare…

I though I was save and not able to hurt anybody, as I can’t listen to
hip-hop without some humorous notion…
I like your second hip-hop track better than the first one, if you care…

We could also start about musicians jokes – as a bass player I
specifically like those about the silliness of bass players…

heheh, well heres a circuit bent madness track with a “bang” so to speak.

http://www.axiom-crux.net/music/000/circuit_bent/KAMMMZA.mp3
turn your speakers down before putting that one on.

and one from this sick vinyl compilation I was on, we each did a solo 15 minute one sided etched vinyl, and they came in a really unique package, it was called melted mailbox. This was entirely done in max, live jam on this patch that Im trying to make into a commercial applet soon.

http://www.axiom-crux.net/music/000/Melted%20Mailbox/railroad.mp3

Im loving listening to others work. Id love to hear some of the other amazing artists in the max community, as Ive talked with so many of you about technical questions and yet never heard any of your work!

I really dig the tunes ive heard through this thread so far. I wonder if this wasn’t at all related to that recent thread about processing vocals for the pop band, which in fact did end up having a budget after all that ranting.
