question about yafr reverb in max/msp examples

May 9, 2008 | 8:47 pm

I just been dissecting the yafr patch (in the examples that come with max) to try and make sense of building my own reverb. It all pretty much makes sense except for the noise~ through lores~ into the delay time inlet of the comb~. Why add this noise object and why the resonant peak? The only thing I can think of is that it adds a random element to the delay time which I can see how that might be useful for emulating reverb. Any help would be appreciated

Cheers,
John

Yep. The filter is not used for its resonance at a particular
frequency, but to attenuate high frequencies in the noise. A onepole~
would have done just as well.
