I am sort new to poly~ and there is something that I can't understand the logics to.

I understand very well that you need the note or midi note, for poly~ to search for the next free voice.

My question is about getting values inside each voice.

I have been using the pack/prepend note----unpack inside poly~.

But my question is: how come if you use [in 1 2 3 etc.], your outside voice is not sent inside the poly~ voice.

My 1st thought was that it needs to go by [prepend note]

My 2nd was that it needs to be part of the list you create w. pack.

My 3rd was it needs to be triggered by the same metro that is triggering the [pack]/prepend note. so metro/number/[int] to poly [inlet x]

you use an [int] or [value name] inside poly~ , triggered by same metro from inside poly. 

But why wouldn't a [number] being sent from outside poly~ but triggered @ the exact same time by the same metro not work, but yes if sent to a [int] inside poly~ ?

you use an [int] or [value name] inside poly~ , triggered by same metro from inside poly.

I think you're going to have to include an example here.

I thought I understood what you meant for a minute but I feel like a clear explanation of the behavior you'd like to see vs. the behavior you've got in your patch would be good.

If you want to "target" a specific voice and send information there you need [target $1]. Let's say you have an int connected to the first inlet and a float to the second. If you send poly~ a message [target 1], your inlets will update the numbers in your first instance. Send it a [target 2], now the numbers will be send to the second instance. Send it a [target 0] and ALL your instances will be updated at once!!

But from what I figure , my int is sent when poly~ voice/instance is unmuted. What I find funny is that I connect the master metro to the number (which is outside of poly~] and sometimes it goes through and sometime not

if you use target, you don't need note/midinote (which i personally never used with [poly~], i've always preferred to make my own voice allocation anyway)

then all voices receive your list and everything should work

(also, to mute/unmute voices inside [poly~], just use [mute $1(, without your extra 1 or 0 which does nothing)

why don't you get rid of prepend note ?

more so than target. wouldn't you think?

in most of the cases (like with a synth), yes.

But here, you trigger a voice every 14ms (and unmute it if it was muted) while you mute it when the envelope is released (every 200ms).

so all your voices should be always on anyway.

i'm not sure that freeing voices for a couple of ms would change something cpu-wise... (also your patch is not that heavy).

for your example i would stick to [target 0( (but i'm not a granular guru..).

also you could have a look at the great granular tools from Nathan Wolek.

that's fine . i probably missed quite a few details that's why i get questions. if you care to know, the 0 to thispoly is in tutorial 21 muting voices example patch

as for my patch . you ' right that it would not change much but the point is more for me to understand the underlaying logics.

as for granular stuff. i already believe the best one i've found is gabor one in the ftm library from itcam. but i will have a look @ your suggestion.
