radial, logic pro and rewire
hi,
i just can't make it work :(
i've downloaded newest version of rewire, made rewire chanel in logic and set radial in ad_rewire mode... but still nothing.
can anyone please help me?
thanks!!!
piotr
OK. Some months later and I still have this problem.
At the moment I just bounce every track separately.
Making it work together (Logic+Radial) would make
my life much easier. Can, please, anyone help me with
setting this Rewire connection. Radial is the only
application I have problems with getting it work as
rewire slave.
Thanks!
Piotr
I'm not sure that radial ever worked properly with rewire - I tried before but gave up on it.
agh, i hope it does. it definitely mentions it in the features list. is there a how-to somewhere of how to at least attempt to set this up?
Works fine for me.
1. Open radiaL
2. Set audio driver to ad_rewire
3. Restart host
4. Select radiaL as a rewire input, however you do it ( I just used Live to verify)
5. Away you go.
If you feel you need to "reset" radiaL's rewire registration, delete
~/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/radiaL Rewire Device
Transport still feels a little funky, I'll have a look at that.

Thanks for the reply. I do the aforementioned, and setup the sync to "radial 2" which is the midi track coming back from Live, so the tempos are the same.
Radial is showing me that it's getting the tempo from Live, i.e. the Midi Clock text on the sync window blinks with every metronome click in Live... which is a good start.
The main thing is, right now Radial is paused... and reports a BPM of -214 when i do the sync. Regardless of whether I do the sync or not though, when I hit play in Live, Radial doesn't start, and radial seems to be locked-- I try to manually hit play in there, bu t it stays paused. When I hit play a white rectangle just appears over the "pause" text. That's all I get.
Are you using the UB beta?
Set the sync input to "rewire", not MIDI.
I see the tempo display is not updating but transport and tempo are being correctly communicated to radiaL.

Hrmm, not that I'm aware of.
I reckon there must be something I'm missing, or just doing wrong here. Following the above steps without luck, seem to get the same results each time.
I suppose I'm not 100% the best at describing what I'm doing, so I've just taken a screen crop of basically everything I've got going once I follow those setting instructions. I guess it's likely I'm just not doing this correctly in Ableton, which I guess would be an entirely different story all together.
In any event, here's what I've got going:

Setup the midi i/o thing in Ableton just to try.
Thanks!

ahh, universal binary. yes, i suppose i am, because i was trying all of this on my intel mac.
i just installed the UB on my power book to see how things play on here, and just saw that option appear. trying it out now.
Okay, so it seems i've gotten a little farther here. now i'm seeing Radial in the "Audio From" on Ableton, on a regular Audio track, which makes a lot more sense.
The transport/pause is still stuck though, definitely isn't playing when i set up Radial with ad_rewire as output.
That's a step in the right direction. Thanks so much for your help, I'd love to use this in conjunction with Live on my upcoming radio sessions.
You don't have the UB version.
In the Sync Setup menu in the UB, there is an extra line for rewire transport. Once this is activated, you have no need for all the MIDI stuff.

ahh, I see that now on my intel. I've got Radial essentially rewiring with Live, in that when I hit play in Live now Radial starts playing along with Ableton.
There are two things still, unfortunately:
The first is, Radial doesn't seem to be outputting any sort of sound in ad_rewire mode, I see no response either in the output level meters or in Live, in any of the 16 inputs.
The second is, I tried this on my powerbook with the UB version, and it doesn't seem to even get this far, rewire and live recognize each other in the live inputs, but there is no play sync happening.
For reference: http://www.carsandtrains.net/settings-2.jpg, UB playing in sync on intel imac, without sound.
Thanks!
You need to start transport in radiaL as well it seems ( hit the space bar), but after that - rewire transport works.
Do you have the monitor in your Live channel set to "In"?
Works for me...

P.S. I'll fix the space bar thing, and the fact we are not displaying the correct tempo from the rewire transport
You know, after leaving this for a day or two, I revisited it on my intel mac and it works fine. I switched up the order a little, and viola, it's working on here. Thanks a ton for your patience in helping me sort this out.
I've noticed that with the same steps, this won't work on my PPC powerbook, however. Since it's something that works on the intel and not the PPC with the same steps, I'm wondering if maybe it's a cross processor problem and not just the setup?
I've noticed other bugs while running on the powerbook, so figure it's a possibility. In all honesty I can't even get Radial to play standalone through Coreaudio or my sound card on that machine. It starts up but the transport won't start.
I realize it's beta, so if there's a formal place for me to report bugs to help out, I'd be more than happy to send there.
Thanks again for your help, and for this excellent software.

Here's fine, or you could send them to
support at cycling74 dot com.

Thanks Andrew.
I think the main things I mentioned, but here's a rundown of what I've found on the PPC:
- Transport, playback will not start, regardless of whether I'm in Rewire mode with ad_rewire output, or standalone with Coreaudio, or my audio interface. The part of the transport with the bpm and PAUSE just blink a white box when you try to start up.
- Sporadic crashes on shutdown / hanging on shutdown resulting in having to force quit.
Hrmm, I know there was one more, I can't recall at the moment though. If it comes to mind throughout the day I will let you know.
Thanks!
Tom
As far as the lack of transport/playback on PPC goes, try deleting your prefs and resetting the audio driver.
-A
hey andrew, fyi i did actually try this, trashed all the prefs and everything you recommended, with the same results.
i could just completely trash the install and reinstall it to see if that works, but i will have to re-authorize, correct?
Nope - the auth will persist.
Lemme know how it goes...
-A
andrew,
so i uninstalled the program (including all prefs, related files) and reinstalled. the authorization did persist, but so did the playback problems. same problems as before, it just doesn't playback at all.
Hey Everyone
I have the following setup:
Mac Book Pro 2.6 GHz Intel Core Duo / 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS 10.5.3
Logic Pro 8.0.2
But I have not been able to Rewire Radial at all - maybe I'm missing something obvious! I do use Melodyne a lot with Logic in Rewire.
I have noticed a couple of things:
1 When I "ad_rewire", the sampling rate drops to 0.
2 Maybe most importantly of all, there is no Radial rewire registration
~/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/radiaL Rewire Device
Thanks for your time!
All the best RaZoR
Hey Everyone
Just as an update - I did install the latest version of rewire 1.7, but still no luck!
Anybody have any ideas out there???
