Hello,

In max 4.5 I was using a patch with random pan. But can’t manage to make it on max 5 because I was using some objects from André Sier. His objects don’t work on max 5. Any ideias how to get around this?

Thanks a lot

I found that this library has a random pan that is quiet good, not exactly what I was using (meaning there’s no so many controls – like speed) but very good. Here’s the link for his web page: http://www.essl.at/works/rtc.html

good luck, But if you find another way to do it let me know. Thanks a lot everybody

The current a-rand works fine on 5.1.7.

Mind you, you can get the same kind of output with, say [lp.tata]->[lp.scampf map 0 1 «lower-bound» «upper-bound»]. Those purists who will only use factory objects could do something like [random 16777216]->[scale 0 16777216 «lower-bound» «upper-bound»].

With all due respect, [random] does not use a very good algorithm for pseudo-random numbers (at least, not the last time DDZ revealed what the algorithm was). The low-order bits aren’t random at all and the high-order bits can produce long-term patterns. André’s a-rand has excellent random properties but comes with a relatively large memory footprint and costs more CPU. The lp.tata object from Litter Power aims for a “Goldilocks” approach: the algorithm produces a very flat distribution with all bits random, but is still very fast to calculate and has a small memory footprint.

Hope this helps.

@David: Which version of Litter Power? Starter Pack or Pro Bundle?

The Litter Starter Pack is currently at version 1.7.1, which was designed for Max 4. The objects will work with Max 5, but there are a number of cosmetic error messages. The Litter Pro Bundle, at version 1.8.1, is the recommended package for Max 5.

The Starter Pack, as a free package, typically lags behind the Pro Bundle in terms of functionality. I realize that by now Max users are (almost!) exclusively on Max 5, and that the Starter Pack should be brought up to the Litter Power 1.8 level, but there has not been time to do so.
