I see this has come up before, but a search has not revealed a simple solution.

It would be useful to be able to play any sequencer-created audio file, with transport controlled and displayed with measures and beats. (For the countless pieces for live player and prerecorded sounds, for instance.)

I seems that tempo and time signature info is encoded somewhere in any standard midi file, but I don’t see how to make that information available to max. Syncing a midi file and an audio file in a sequencer is often fine, but not all interested players have a sequencer. A max solution would be more portable.

Any ideas?
