Recording Internally (Tutorial 13)

Hi, I’m looking to add the final piece to my patch which is to record internal audio. Well it’s actually going to be for recording audio from an external source but I don’t have a mic so I want to test record something internally.
I can’t get tutorial 13 working for me and I Don’t know what I’m doing wrong.
I’m running XP, I have the DSP input and output set to my soundcard. I have directsound selected.
I record for 2 seconds but it always comes out blank. The audio I have in the background whilst this is recording is music playing from iTunes.

Help anyone?

If the DSP input is set to your sound card input, that is where the sound will be recorded from. You will probably need a third party audio routing utility to use iTunes audio as input to MAX/MSP instead.

Oh ok, I thought that because I use that soundcard to listen to iTunes it would just record whatever audio was being played.
Well I opened up Reason and tried playing a loop through that, but it still hasn’t worked.
