i'm trying to record a video sample (called sample.mov) using jit.qt.record, then play it back with jit.qt.movie, then record over the old sample.mov file using the same name, before playing it back again. I've been careful to not read and write to the same file name at the same time (with delays between all commands), and I'm receiving no error messages. But I can't get jit.qt.record to record over the old file. It may be adding to the end, even. I've tried sending "clear" messages to both jit.qt.record and jit.qt.movie once they are finished reading or writing (again, careful not to interrupt anything and no error messages) but the original sample.mov file is still there, not being recorded over.

This is for an installation, so I'd like to avoid racking up a long series of video samples. I don't need to save any of them. I'd rather replace the same file each time. Any help?

maybe the "kill" message to jit.qt.movie, to really get rid of it? be careful of course, there's no warning. maybe you can just delete it this way, then record a new sample.mov.

I'm having a similar issue- except I'm not using a jit.qt.movie (only jit.qt.record and jit.qt.grab) - I'm trying to store each clip- but only ONE version of each clip. If a second take is needed, I want to overwrite the previous one. It does this, but inconsistently.

I'm writing the files to a public folder on a computer on the same network.

I've just ran into the same problem, I can't record over an existing file.

I found a solution using the [mxj filesys] object (

 Prior to each new recording, I simply delete the file.

It's not an elegant solution but it works fine for me.

The solution I found is to send the write message to jit.record twice (with a del 100 in between)

Somehow, the first one delete the file and the second one write it as expected...
