I am new to regular expressions and they seem pretty fascinating. I thought I lucked onto the perfect solution for what I'm doing but I'm getting stuck at the final hurdle.

I am basically trying to parse CSV values that I am extracting from a custom Java class.

I found this expression on a Java class trying to do basically the same thing.

This was the comment that accompanied the script.

The rather involved pattern used to match CSV's consists of three

* alternations: the first matches aquoted field, the second unquoted,

Amazingly, this seemed to work perfectly. When I attached the back references outlet to a print module - the max window printed out each of the individual comma separated values.

My problem is now dealing with these results. I can't seem to get them to flow into any objects. Numbers, floating point numbers or messages. I have tried to the bucket object with no luck, the unpack object, the funnel, none of them seem to recognize the results coming out of the outlet.

I got close with the zl queue object, but that resulted in a queue of 10 bits of data instead of 5 - it seemed that for each bit of data, a null or 0 bit of data was also parsed.

I have a feeling the expression itself might be not what I want, or I'm using it incorrectly. It was pretty much a stab in the dark, and I thought I got extremely lucky - perhaps not.

regexp - can I just use a java regexp?
