render order: jit.gl.videoplane – jit.gl.text3d – jit.gl.model

Hi all,

I know I’m just forgetting something or have my order/automatic 0 wrong.
What I’m trying to do is (painter’s algorithm):

1) videoplane
2) .obj model
3) text3d

I can get it to work the other way round (videoplane on top), but I can’t
seem to get the videoplane in the background.

I can also get it to work (videoplane in the background) with either the
model or the text, but not both. I’ve also tried @layer and @automatic 1

I apologize. It seems that I am always able to figure it out after I email
the jitter list with my problem.

I put an @ortho 2 in the render and got rid of all the automatics and now it
seems to work wonderfully – tho I have been fooled before…

Anyway, if any of you have a sec to spare and want to shoot me some
criticism about how I’ve structured my patch – I would welcome it.
Otherwise, sorry for taking up your time.

Hi Brecht,

Yep, that was one of the things I tried, but for some reason I still
couldn’t get the videoplane in the background. It either didn’t work or I
started getting these errors:

• error: jit.gl.texture: error binding readback mechanism for capture!
• error: jit.gl.pbuffer: error binding invalid pbuffer!

…hence some hair pulling and then turning to the list.

Your patch works fine – exactly what I wanted and what I expected to
happen. I didn’t go about it that pragmatically though… a bad habit of
mine. I was just quickly cobbling a patch together…

However, when I set my patch up to use @layer, it still doesn’t put the
videoplane in the back. It only does it when I use @ortho 2 in the render.

Weird. I can’t seem to figure out what the problem is, even after I
stripped most of your patch to the minimal so looks almost like mine,
I still get the wrong order…
Of course, when you are happy with ortho 2, and it works,..fine…
but then again, I’d be interested in the solution if someone else
might see it…

At least I’m not going insane. My sanity was definitely in question there
for a while. Such is my relationship with Jitter. I’m sure one of the
wizards have an answer. Thanks for looking at it!
