Rewire in a standalone

How do you get a Rewire host to register the existence of a new client?
Pro Tools ‘sees’ Max/MSP OK, but I’m having trouble getting it to see a patch once it’s made into a standalone.
In my Inserts I have ‘Max/MSP’ listed, and I even have ‘VST Shell 2.6′ – an old version of the standalone I want to use, but I have updated that patch and made a new standalone ( v.2.72) and whatever order I open things up, I cannot get PT to see the new version.
If I launch PT, open the standalone, select ‘ad_rewire’ and switch DSP on, I just get a message asking if my Rewire host is launched.
By what process does Pro Tools learn that there is a new Rewire slave in town, and put it into it’s input menus? I’ve tired just running the standalone without PT to see if that registers it, but no joy.
cheers
Roger
