I recently upgraded to Max 6, and even more recently added a Macbook to my studio. I have been successful in the past on a Windows 7 PC routing 14 channels of audio from MAx 5 to Ableton Live 8 using ReWire, with Ableton as the master and Max as the slave. After upgrading to Max 6 on my PC, ReWire still worked fine.

I am now trying to get this working on my Macbook running OSX 10.8.2 with Max 6 and Ableton Live 8, and I cannot even get past selecting ad_rewire as my audio driver in Max – I get these error messages:
- ad_rewire: unable to register rewire device Max 6, error 6666
- ad_rewire: please check ReWire installation and restart Max/MSP.

I just downloaded Max 5 and ran in demo mode on my MacBook and ReWire works fine.

I am guessing I have some problem with the way ReWire is installed/configured with my MAx 6 install.

Any suggestions for how I can get ReWire working with Max 6 on my Macbook?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Here’s a little more info that may be helpful. I noticed in my Max5/Cycling ’74/ad folder there is a file MSPReWireDevice.bundle that was not in the folder Max6/Cycling ’74/ad. When I copied this file from the Max5 folder to the Max6 folder, I can now choose and start the ad_rewire audio driver in Max6, and I can now choose Max6 inputs in Ableton audio tracks. However, if set an Ableton audio track to a Max6 input and then turn on ad_rewire in Max6, I get horribly loud static in Ableton, which I am guessing might be coming from some feedback loop.

Any idea what might be happening here? Is the MSPReWireDevice.bundle file I copied from my Max5 install to my Max6 install not correct?
