Hey all,

I’ve got ReWire to send sound from Max to Logic, and to send MIDI data
from Logic to Max, but I can’t figure out if I can get sound from
Logic to Max–as in, use one of the Logic buses as an input to the
[adc~] object. This is for a multi-channel looper project, with some
sub-patches, so the patch folder is getting bulky rather quickly.
Does this make any sense? And is it possible, or do I have to use
Soundflower, aggregate devices, and all that nonsense?

I’ll revise that:
I could even go for just using a ReWire out, but being able to get input from the Built-In Line In, some FireWire card, or any input at all, really. I just want to use ReWire not as a synth, but as an audio processor.

This can’t be done with rewire.

It’s a synth model, midi in, audio out, Max can be a host but logic can’t be a synth.

Can you do your whole project in Max?

Right, I’ve got Soundflower, the Aggregate Device, all that, but I’m
building a patch to give as a run time to some of my friends and
wanted to ease them into Max (they’re used to Logic) with as little
trouble as possible. But it shouldn’t be too bad–I’ll do Line In –>
Soundflower 2ch Out (to Logic). I used to have terrible stability
issues with Soundflower, the connections failing in the middle of
recording, but haven’t had any since the update to 1.4 (I had 1.1
before). Is this a factor of the update or just of luck?

try Jack OS X too – its is more complex to set up than soundflower at first, but more flexible and ultimately easier to understand what is going on in complex setups:

http://jackosx.com

It runs an audio server based on a hardware interface, so everything is always in sync, unlike issues I have had in the past with soundflowerbed.

It also lets you use ardour, etc.

caveat: jack is broken by the 10.5.6 update as stated by the developer.
or, more precise from the website: “Warning – OS X 10.5.6 breaks
ability to use Jack OS X as default audio device (for iTunes, etc..).
We are working on it…”

otherwise its great…
