What is used to decide the right-to-left order? The destination module's left position? Or the position of the cable inlet?

whatever determines it, one cannot trust it. always use trigger whenever order matters.(so you got no answer to your question, plus, you were patronized...)

If a single outlet is connect to multiple objects than left to right ordering of the receiving objects applies.

If an object has multiple outlets, usually the outlets will be fired from right to left regardless of the the position of the objects. see this:

that the data from the longer cable arrives later is, however, a rumor.

Avoiding curves is always good; data has a hard time passing through larger than 90 degrees angles. ;)
