same webcam twice?

February 7, 2010 | 8:45 am

Hi there,

for a recent theatre project I tried to use two Playstation Eye webcams (following Andrew Benson’s tips in the camera data tutorials) as different camera inputs. In doesn’t work – the computer either only recognises one of the two cameras, or max crashes. I am quite new to Jitter, but I have the feeling it should be a simple problem. Tips?

Thanks a lot!

Cheers

Falk

No problem with me…
Are you on snow ? Or 10.5 ?

i’m on 10.6.4

and i have a solution. seems too simple but it solved the problem:
used the patch mentioned in here: http://cycling74.com/forums/topic.php?id=22541
and then i connected the two cams via a externally powered usb hub!

maybe max crashed before trying to sort out input source as the two cams have exactly the same id, maybe it has to do with the usb bus… (before i tried the settings message to give him the video source, and when i opened the "source" tab, it crashed)
i guess the option to first set vdevice and input over messages and prepend them and then turn the camera on solved it…

nice spam up there by the way… topic fail :)
