Script to temporarily disable Spotlight

October 17, 2011 | 8:35 pm

I need to disable Spotlight during live music performances so that there is no background drive access being launched by Spotlight volume indexing during the performance. We are using Ivory and Kontakt, and can’t afford any extra drive access during performance.

Does anyone have advice on a way to automate a temporarily disabling of Spotlight drive indexing that I could script when I launch MaxMSP? It would need to be quick and easy, and not require re-indexing when I re-enable Spotlight after the performance.

Any thoughts? Thanks, t bruce bowers
