bizarre! though for backwards compatibility, i'm sure we will just have to live with this bug ;]

I don't have max in front of me cause I am at work... Can you describe the bug please?

If the sel has only one argument you get a second inlet to change that 

argument. Native objects of max usually accept lists which are 

distributed to their inlets. Thus the second element of your list will 

be passed to the second inlet and change the argument...

select is an old object, ment to be fed with single integers...

Workaround is to use route, in most cases a better replacement anyway, 

as select does not pass all message types unchanged to the right outlet,

Ah, yeah.  That makes sense...there is a precedent for using a list  
to set arguments like that.
