I have a few objects which transcribe signal material into midi data, but I’m unsure how to send it out within the patcher. Can one go from a “plugin” to a “noteout”?

Any ideas? Thanks!

This is a little unclear. Do you have a max patch that is generating midi notes and you want to send them out of max? What is the “plugin” you mention?

The plugin~ object that interacts with the plugout~ at the end of the patch.

I have an object that takes the signal from plugin~ and turns it from msp into max information which I then turn into midi values. I want to be able to have this midi data come out of the effect and go into a softsynth.

Essentially, I want to go from “plugin~” at the beginning of my chain to “midiout”

According to Documentation: Creating Midi Effects, which in in the help docs in Max, you can use the midiout object directly in your patch.

I’ve definitely tried, but it appears that all “max audio effect” patches go from audio to audio. If I delete the plugout~ and send the midi data to a midiout or noteout, it does not midi data to exit because it’s still sitting in an “audio” track in ableton.

I’m thinking I need a way to send it to a midi channel within the patch, then order a secondary midi track to “listen” to the channel specified in the audio track. I’m unsure of how to go about this specifically.

you cannot do this in maxforlive. period. it is a deficiency of ableton live, and nothing to do with max. sadly, and insanely, it looks like it still exists in live 9. no ‘mixed’ devices. total bullshit. ableton seem to completely disregard the basic max principles.

you need to look into the latency nightmare workarounds such as send / receive across devices, and if on a mac leigh hunt’s externals.
