newbie here, a bit dizzy with it all... I am sure the answer for this is here but I couldn't find it.

I want to send a midi controller from a parent to a bpatcher. The midi is coming in to the parent ,for example as, "r pan" . Could some kind person give me step-by-step as to how to get it to my panner which is in a bpatcher? I tried pasting "r pan" into the b-ptacher and connecting it but of course it doesn't work...

you can connect via inlets or via send/receive, just as with regular subpatches.

thanks for replying. I mean I copied to the object "r pan" which is receiving midi successfully in my parent patch into the file patch from which the bpatcher subpatch is derived

I have attached the original file from which the bpatcher is derived. This file doesn't receive any of the midi assigned it by the receive objects.

take a look at the help/docs on making your own abstractions and bpatchers, that should help. If you don't want to use cords into the bpatcher, you can use send/receive. If you use "receive #1pan" in the bpatcher, for example, you can give the bpatcher an argument (in the Inspector) and it will function independently of the other ones, if that's what you want. Other nice tricks would be to prepend an index number before your data value, then use "route #1" at the other end to filter only the messages you want for that bpatcher.

the standard midiin/notein/ctlin objects can work as usual in the bpatcher too, so unless you're doing some filtering/fiddling with the data in the parent patch, you can just use them as-is.
