for a m4l device (which should be irrelevant, i guess) i'm trying to set up a send/receive scenario, in which the argument (of sender and receiver) can be freely chosen.

i'd like the user to decide on which argument to use for his send/receive in order to freely decide about a certain routing. is there any way to do this? like appending the argument ("destination") to the send- and receive-object?

check out the forward and receive objects, these can both be sent a message to change where they are sending to and receiving from

will this work throughout multiple patches? or only internally within a single one?

and do you know anything about their latency / performance speed?

they behave exactly as a normal s/r pair, you can just change the source and destination, so will work across multiple patches. performance will be the same as s/r

don't want to bug you, but - while i'm at it: is there a way to achieve a similar "transmission" (as send/forward - receive) without any latency?

there is always going to be latency, but I don't think it's something you need to be worried about here unless you're bothered about micro or nano-s timing... it will be insignificant to everything else you'll be doing through the M4L API
