sfplay~ loop

June 26, 2007 | 4:45 pm

Hello, I’ve been unsuccessfully trawling the max/msp mail archives
trying to find an answer to what I thought other people would have come
up against already. Apologies if this has been dealt with elsewhere; a
link to a solution would be appreciated.

I have some carefully-crafted sound files that are meant to form a
seamless loop once they’re playing/looping (the last sample in the file
leads to the first without a pop; if you play the file once from
beginning to end however you do get pops at start and finish). Using
wavelab (yes, I’m running Max/MSP (4.5.6) on Windows) or Winamp to play
the file in loop mode works perfectly. Sadly, using sfplay~ in loop
mode results in a pop each time the file returns to the beginning. I
assume this means there are some (silent) samples padded at the end of
the file, or perhaps it stops before reaching the end?

Does anyone have a solution? I fear looping with a signal into the left
inlet to control cues might be the only solution but thought I’d ask if
anyone knows of an easier solution. Seems to me that loop mode should
simply do what you expect: start with the first sample in the file as
soon as we get to the last. But maybe I’m missing something.

Thanks and best wishes,

Michael

I don’t know about sfplay~, but you may easily do this with buffer~ and either wave~ or groove~

Thanks but the files are too long and too many to be loaded into memory;
I really do want to stream them from disc.
