sfplay~ or groove~ or play~?

i'd like to make a simple patch to open a single soundfile, usually a few minutes long, that then displays the waveform and allows me to change the playback speed, as well as mouse-click in the waveform display to quickly skip back and forth in the soundfile, while playing back.

sfplay~ doesn't offer a simple way to display and click on the waveform afaik, so i should probably use groove~ or play~.

i'm concerned about sound quality though. this would be a studio tool for me, and i've noticed some reduction in audio detail when using groove~ in the past.

any suggestions?

many thanks!

I would go for play~ since it's easy to jump and manipulate time with it.

Max Patch
Copy patch and select New From Clipboard in Max.

Example:

Just load a supersound and click the waveform. Adjust speed with slider :)
