i would like the wiimote to trigger a sample when using it in a fashion similar to a drumstick. i would also like to be able to scale the loudness of the sample according to the speed/strength of the gesture but i'm having a problem with this...

for small pitch movements acceleration ranges from about 0.4-0.6 for 0-180 degree pitch movement. as soon as i make a large movement acceleration can jump to 0.7 or higher regardless whether pitching up or down. is it possible to integrate accelerometer data to get the direction/position or use another method or must i use infrared data as well to determine direction?

any suggestions and especially examples on how to find direction and find a peak 'attack' value would be very helpful as i feel i am not grasping something basic about the data provided by the wiimote!
