single particle emitter with multiple textures

Hi!
I’m trying to create a particle system that uses multiple textures. After searching the forum and experimenting, I can send a char matrix to alter the texture, but its not quite what I envisioned: it changes the texture during the life of the particles.

Is it possible to have one particle emitter where each particle is born with a random texture and keeps it for its whole life ?
