since even the beta version of softvns has difficulties running on my mac OSX.6 (with the latest max) I was wondering what could replace some of its functions, most notable v.regions?

The idea is to define "regions" in an incoming image (could be a grid or hand-draw regions) in which changing the image (waving my hands, sort of) would let me control "things" (map this info to sliders/controls)

This is a patch I got from someone on the forum a while back (apologies, I can't remember who). I think it will do what you are asking. well, it does the "draw your own regions" part anyway ;)
