Spectral analysis

October 13, 2006 | 6:47 pm

I working my way through the CNMAT spectral tutorials. In several of the
examples there are data that specify resonances as lists of freq-amp-decay
triples. Are there analysis program that can produce these data from a
sound file?

Hi!

You can use Ircam’s ResAn (part of Diphone Studio), or some analyzer like Spear, trim unwanted data and do it the hard way… by hand!

Best regards,

The one we use at CNMAT is "ResAn", which is part of IRCAM’s Diphone suite. Unfortunately, one has to pay money to join the IRCAM forum to use this software.

I am not aware of any free software to do this kind of analysis, which is kind of a shame. Making one would be a great project for somebody.

there is no free download on ircams site.. they have a few free externals somehwere.. but if you want the good stuff you have to get a forum membership.. sooooo worth it though.. I use them all the time, probably accounts for 1/2 my patches now.

Hmm, I could be wrong, but isn’t there a way you could use pfft~ to get the data you need?

I also have used SPEAR many a time as Rui Penha mentioned; love it for fixed media, but no so convenient if you’re interested in performance.
