Good morning…

Everyone seems so rude about spigot, I’d be grateful for a few time-saving pointers;

I need to take up to 9 video loops from streaming live video, and control the sound level and brightness of each. I’m assuming I’ll just use jit.brocsa and loads of connected spigots – but as it’s live video, I need to convert it to quicktime, right? Or is there a better way? Soundflower any more helpful?

I’m pretty good with max/msp, but, as you can probably tell, just starting out with moving pictures – so, sage advice gratefully followed.

Hi Lee-
Is there something about your video input that is preventing you from
using ADC~? If not I would recommend you try running the audio input
separate than the video via the ADC~. For simple volume control you
could just use the volume or gain attributes with jit.qt.grab, but
there is a warning in the help doc that volume changes may not be
gradual, so it may not work so well if you want to mix on the fly.

Spigot~ is for prerecorded stuff only. Also it is much simpler to
adjust the volume in the jit.qt.movie object via the vol attribute.
You only need spigot~ if you want to process and/or route the audio
coming from the movie in Max/MSP.

That’s my advice…

MarkDavid – that’s great, thankyou. Don’t know how I missed the [vol $1] on the jit.qt.grab help page…I guess there’s quite a lot of info on there! But that little hint has saved me loads of hassle.

Cheers,

Hi Lee
You’re welcome.
Just to make sure you’re not pulling your hair out later, as I
understand it jit.qt.grab takes either [volume $1] or [gain $1],
while jit.qt.movie takes [vol $1]. jit.qt.grab has a bunch of
“sound_controls” illustrated in a patcher in the lower right hand
side of the help patch.
take care-
