Spring Reverb?

So I’m using yafr2 in the patch that I’m building and it sounds great, but it would be nice to have a grittier/springier reverb option. I’ve done a couple of searches and not come up with anything in terms of how to achieve that sound.

I’m guessing using a really short snapback delay type thing with some highpass filtering might get you halfway there, but only in that "Radio Shack Reverb" kind of way.

Has anyone managed to make a ‘full on’ spring reverb in max?

AFAIK, in a real spring the low frequency waves take more time to travel through the spring. This results in a kind of filter sweep – the typical "wet" sound of a spring reverb.

But I’m not aware of any digital filter that emulate this kind of behaviour…

You could play around with the delay time modulation in the yafr patch and maybe add a little distortion..

I would imagine modelling a physical spring reverb would be quite difficult, but I was mainly hoping to get some ‘sproing’ type sounds going.

I guess convolution might be an option, although somewhat expensive considering I just want a bit of grit in the reverb.

you can simulate that with an allpass filter in the feedback path.
not a reverb yet, but might get you some ideas.

isn’t that just a standard shroder (sp?) all pass that’s used in most FDN’s?
