start recording on midi note reception

July 16, 2013 | 2:01 am

Im completely new to M4L (and Live) and I just brought a Push. Unfortunately when i hit the record button Live just blindly starts recording resulting in clips that usually have a blank space in the beginning, forcing me to use the computer to edit. Would it be possible to set M4L so as to tell Live that once I hit record to only start recording once the first midi note has been received?

You can use M4L to start recording from the first received note BUT there is a timing problem. Since recording starts after receiving the first note, the note itself will not be recorded. In addition, the start command sent from M4L has some unpredictable latency (like any Live API call). These timing problems could be solved by delaying the notes on recording, but then again you would have to edit/adjust the recorded notes afterwards.

I’ll give it a shot. Thanks
