Starting an .exe

Starting an .exe

Is there a way to trigger an .exe file from within MAX? I need to start an independent program written in PowerBasic that processes a text file created by MAX.

Any help would be appreciated.

The only thing I can think to try is a message to max:
; max launchbrowser [filename.exe]

I couldn’t get it to work for notepad.exe on windows. Usually it opens a web browser to read an html page, but if you use a .doc file, it’ll open up Word (or OpenOffice which I use and love :)

So there seems to be some smarts there which will open the proper (I guess OS-selected app) for a given file type, but at least on a quick try, it didn’t launch an actual .exe itself.

I think [launchurl] only open programs that respond to urls (FTP clients, web browsers, mail clients, etc.) I could have sworn I had heard of an internal object that allowed for this…

launchURL works great! Unfortunately the help file does not explicitly indicate that it can be used in that way. This will make life much easier.

Many, many thanks for the help!
