I have a main patch which comes with 6 different subpatches. Those 6 different subpatches are all have their own "dac~" with "startwindow" and "stop". I was trying to send different commands from main patch to those 6 different subpatches so those 6 subpatches will not make sounds together. For example, I send bang to subpatch1 to trigger startwindow in subpatch1 by using "s subp1" and send bang to subpatch2 by using "s subp2" to avoid multi-triggering at the same time. However, sometimes all the patches are just going crazy and output sounds at the same time. I don't understand. According to the tutorial, "startwindow" is supposed to only turn on the sound in that window (or that subpatch). Did I miss something??? Or what is the best way to avoid this problem??

I usually have some sort of volume control in each subpatch. Also, 

judicious use of mute~ will stop CPU cycles from getting chewed up

in inactive subpatchers.
