Stop Internet Censorship

January 18, 2012 | 4:51 pm

As many of you know, today is a digital strike against internet censorship, and specifically SOPA and PIPA. Just a word of encouragement and solidarity from the elves here at Cycling’ 74 to voice your opposition to these laws.

https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/01/january-18-internet-wide-protests-against-blacklist-legislation

As a result of the strike campaign and a recent White House statement, it looks like SOPA as it stands will be abandoned, but this is something that needs some continued momentum against revisions of the bill and similar bills like PIPA.

If you’re in the US, EFF has set up an easy way to email congress:

http://blacklist.eff.org/

If you’re outside the US, there is this petition to the US state department:

http://americancensorship.org/modal/state-dept-petition

And if that doesn’t work, we’ll see you in the streets!

+1 for posting this!
It might look like just another law – but is a serious paradigm shift that will have impact inside and outside the US!!!!!!

(ps. streets can be great real-time-performance-spaces ;) )

Definitely not cool, no.

I’m getting sick of all this hypocrisy everywhere, man. (envision "the dude’s" accent there, no bitterness :) Isn’t Hilary Clinton always pleading for free internet?

"free" as in unrestricted ofcourse (or i misinterpreted:)

there are similar laws in the pipeline in germany, france, spain, russia …

so if you are from europe and you think you are not affected from those
US laws, you´re wrong twice.

Only the unemployed and unwashed (with rich parents) take to the streets, apparently.

In the UK, we have observed how our administration looks, for political and business models, to the West. It now appears that the US administration is Orienting itself elsewhere for inspiration. Erosion of civil liberties, armed security forces, child labour. Oh the irony.
