Successful Biofeedback With Plants!
For those of you interested in Biofeedback Experiments, here is an incredibly successful project i thought i would share with the max community. Many of you might be interested in trying to replicate the experiment. I certainly am, but i’m not exactly sure where to start. So, how about here. Check out the link and let me know what you think!
Weather the plants are actually "communicating" or not is perhaps up for scientific and philosophical debate. Fine if that becomes part of the discussion, however, i am hoping some of you can help clarify the implementation being used in this experiment for those of us who are interested.
Also to postulate other potential implementations. This is probably the beginning of a new era in biofeedback capabilities that is going to have some astonishing new implications for art and science.

Action potentials (electrical signals) in plants can be as quick as 20 ms so you need a daq with a fast sample rate on each channel – 500 kbs/s min – I would recomend labjacks u3 which I have just bought – you probably could use an arduino but I want sure about the sample rate and I wanted more than 4 channels. Next you need very conductive electrodes (ag/cl)- they need to be placed correctly . The input impedance of your op amps are very important -.
If I win the lottery, half of it goes to you. Your background, perspective, and invitation on this subject are priceless. I could honestly see devoting the rest of my life to this field of study. Perhaps, even continuing on with my formal education to obtain a Masters degree or PHD if necessary. I have a BA in Business Information Systems, and currently work as an Email/Web Developer, so it would be a bit of a transition for me, but not unattainable.
Intuitively speaking, I could already see on the surface, some of the problems and misguided perceptions you mentioned above. My first goal is to research your work and installations. Aside from that, where would you recommend I start? A good book perhaps? More formal education? Though you have quite a head start on me, if I am able to find enough time to properly devote to this, I will happily share with you my findings as well. Swine before pearls though of course. I would not ask you for any information you consider to be ‘proprietary’ so to speak. Only guidance in where to find the information for myself, and it looks as though from your post you have already offered a lot of useful information. I may have a few things to offer as well from my relentless rouge studies in music, cymetics, geometry and mathematics (though I’m not quite sure how it ties in with this… yet. It does somehow, i am sure of that). I appreciate your feedback and response on this thread.
