I am trying to set up a patch which will store several different words and then on receipt of a bang change the displayed word to a new word. However i am not sure how i would facilitate storing and then switching between stored words based on a bang.

To further explain, say i had a message box which had the word 'soft' displayed in it first and then when the user presses next the displayed word then changes to the next stored word 'hard' for example and then pressing next again the word 'dull' appears.

Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Take a look at the umenu and counter objects.

Hi Thanks for the reply. The umenu is cool but the word must only change on the receipt of a bang as everything else is automated.

So everytime the person clicks next the word diplayed in the message box changes to the next stored word?

I've used the coll method a lot, it's nice but needing the prepending number is sometimes a bit of a pain, especially if you want to edit directly in the coll.

I like the umenu option - though that would be a little bit less efficient, being a UI object right?

Yes the method that Chris suggested first does work nicely. However i think there may be a bug in my patch somewhere because it toggles through the first word on the bang, but the second bang it jumps past one of the words.
