There are several. The important thing to know is that Max has a global transport, and many objects can attach to that. When using Max for Live, the Live timeline is the global transport. You might start by looking at the transport object, and then have a look at metro, timepoint, phasor @lock 1, etc. Also look at Max Tutorial 19.
