I'd love some advice on different ways to accomplish this, esp. inexpensive ones:

I've had an ongoing project for several years creating networked scores in max/jitter that are displayed on remote screens for performers, either in the same space or remote locations. In the past I've done this using laptops with a host/client setup: I create client patches that the performers can run in runtime on a laptop, bundling the library of all graphic files in the runtime patch so that all they need to receive from the host computer (through udpsend or jitter objects) are commands that drive the display. But that involves a bunch of laptops and it seems there should be a better way to do this.

I read up on jit.broadcast and got the RTSP streaming working, thinking that it could then be viewed by iPads, only to discover that the iPad is not very RTSP-friendly.

So I'm thinking of 2 options at this point: 1) look into other brands of tablets that could either run Max Runtime and/or would work well as RTSP clients, or 2) simply use cheap display monitors and hook them up to a central computer in each location. Tablets would be cleaner (no VGA cables, i.e. you can just plop them down on a music stand like sheet music) but I'm not sure what the pros and cons are here and what would be cheapest or most readily available. (I initially thought of iPads because enough people seem to have them that it wouldn't be so hard to round up several to borrow for a gig.) If anyone has great suggestions I'd be very grateful.
