keyboard shortcut (alt-command N) on the right. Somehow Max seems to
confuse the umenu entry with its own menu (File->New->Text).

the alt+command + N is one of my shortcut system (which modify the
application shortcuts). I’ve seen that strange behavior in the umenu,
and I’ve really no idea why this happens… But anyway, it’s
harmless :-)

Left-parentheses and slash are treated by the Mac OS API as meta-
characters, disabling the menu item and generating the command-key
shortcut, respectively.

Many people have been disappointed that only a subset of the meta-
characters handled by Mac OS are supported by umenu. You seem to have
stumbled upon both of them by accident.

I don’t know of a workaround other than avoiding these characters,
sorry.
