Text to Speech Patch

May 11, 2011 | 8:08 pm

Hi,

Just an idea that I wanted to run past the forums before getting started on the code. I want to design a patch that would allow me to input text and allow me to use a text to speech generator to record clips quickly into the Ableton Session View.

I plan on using this during live sets instead of talking into a microphone. I guess I’m wondering if anyone had a good idea on how to get the actual speech generator running. For example, TextEdit’s (Mac OSX) speech generators are perfect for the sound I’m looking for. Is there anyway to run one of those generators in Max? I know this is a pretty broad question, but just wanted to get the idea out there.

The aka.speech object by Masayuki Akamatsu will do the trick.

Is there an object or an abstraction that can do the text to speech for windows ???

@Driftpattern : your patch requires ‘shell’ and I can’t find this object, only dead links.

@pid : should have, for sure. Just moving to a new place these days and miss a solid internet connection.

In the dim past (I think, even pre-MSP) there was a speech object that allowed one to embed codes for pitch and rhythm to make the voice actually sing melodies. Is there a way to get the aka object to do this, or was that older speech object ever updated?
