char is one bytes, float32 and long takes for bytes, and float64 is 8
bytes. Some examples:

jit.matrix 4 char 720 480: that makes 1382400 bytes (1,38 MB):
4*1*720*480
jit.matrix 4 float32 720 480: that makes 5529600 bytes (5,52 MB):
4*4*720*480

so
jit.matrix 4 char 8000 8000: 4*1*8000*8000 = 256000000 bytes (256 MB).

Does anybody have experience with using multiple input devices in
conjunction with multiple cyclops objects on a mac or pc?

Theoretically, yes, although this has never been tested.
