The return of Jitter Recipes

Andrew Benson's icon

It's been a long time, but with all the new cool stuff in Max 6, I had to get back into making Jitter Recipes. I'll be trying to post a new one each week, so stay tuned

New Recipe: 47. Scrambler

A new implementation of OpenGL feedback using jit.gl.node to manage rendering of multiple objects. Also, it looks totally sweet.

New Recipe for this week: 48.PartyLights

An eye-candy generator featuring a DIY particle system, a bloom filter, and feedback trails. Do you love house music?

Thanks so much, your particle System is really great !!!

Glad you like it. I like this way to do it because it is easy to track numerous particle parameters along with position, etc., and can be extended easily with some Gen patching.

I'm getting the following message trying to run recipe 48 :(

gen_domain: jit.gen: [string "gen1.jit.cpp1"]:431: assertion failed!
jit_gen: Gen patcher not compiled

You might be running an older version of Max 6. Try updating to the most recent version and see if that helps.

Ah, that would explain it! I rolled back to 6.0.3 until a fix for jit.gl.lua appears in the next update :)

Combine the hierarchical transformation rigs offered by jit.anim.node with the high-quality spline interpolation of jit.path to create smooth, looping animations without having to mess around with keyframes. Who doesn't love a dancing robot?

P.S. This is my 50th Jitter Recipe!!!! (the count started at 0, like counter) I've been making these little things since 2005 in an effort to supplement the available Jitter examples and docs with practical usage techniques that are relevant to what artists actually want to make. I hope some of you have found it helpful. Stay tuned for more.

Wanna see something really cool? Imagine 4 OpenGL cameras captured to 4 videoplanes with feedback. Nevermind, just go look at it and try creating your own exquisite symmetry.
