Sorry for the silly title.

Does anyone know of a very powerful and very Jitter friendly graphics card I might furnish a PC with? Even better would be a recommendation for a whole Jitter dedicated PC configuration. I’m on a mac now but considering building such a PC. I’m using live camera capture and openGL 3d.

I know there are other threads on this but as far as I can see they’re all very out of date.

Any advice would be great. thanks !

GPU wise, I wouldn’t get a multi-GPU card, but any of the recent NVidia or ATi mid to high end gaming cards would be good. For example, NVidia GTS 250 or better, or ATi Radeon 5750 or better. With currently shipping cards, a Radeon 5870 is probably your most desirable option today, unless you have other apps which would be better of with an NVidia card, a GTX 285 is currently the best single GPU gaming card available card. If you’re not buying for a few months, you might also wait on NVidia’s new GF100 chipset. I would just recommend you read various online card comparisons or something good and single GPU in your price range.

CPU wise, Core i5 and i7s are great. Again, just read typical comparisons.

Hi there, might I add that before you buy a card, check on the quality of their drivers (or lack thereof), by doing some research in forums or mailing lists. On my PC machine, I have an ATI Radeon HD 4890, and its catalyst control app is really annoying and buggy. Also, until recently, the driver was causing the screen to go blank from time to time by itself. It was fixed with the latest release, but It was there for ages…

All my previous cards were Nvidia based, both on my mac and on my pc, and I really did not have such issues, or any issues whatsoever, plus they work much better on linuxes. My next card will most likely be an Nvidia. Sorry ATI…
