They agree that the option to enable/disable rounded corners should be instated and available as an option in Max 5.

Twenty Nine users have stated that the option has VALUE. Twenty nine users think that it would make life in Max liveable for some, better for others. I implore you, please, allow us the ability to customize the look and feel of Max 5. I use blackbox as my window manager under XP for crying out loud. My whole computer is gray, blocky, dark, and minimal... like Max 4. Give me the option to at least make Max 5 useable for us peculiars that need these silly little options available in our lives to get through the day. It'll make me and the rest of us very happy.

Hm. As I believe I noted in my post, I wouldn't necessarily put my views that strongly until I've actually used the shipping version. The new look might just need some more spit & polish. A ;max rounded $1 message might be a lot of work that would be better spent elsewhere.

Anyway, I'd prefer you didn't add my name to your list of "supporters" in this manner without, y'know, asking first.

Yeah, right. Note I reserved the right to reverse my position later, didn't voice my support for a max message to turn 'em on/off at all, and (in the bit you haven't bothered to quote) suggested that some more attention to consistency might be all that's required. Don't put words in my mouth.

I'm squarely anti-round-corner, but I don't know that yet another $1 to think about is necessarily the answer. My concern looking at the new max is generally that the interface design seems weak. Given that this is a graphical programming environment, a lot of careful thought should go into the graphical interface (and remember max has looked the same for a lllong time). The round corners seem to me to be an oversight, something trendy and new at the expense of function, which is worrisome in a graphical programming language.

In any case, I'd like to see c74 really delve into the graphic design issue more, maybe won't be in v5.0, that's fine, but it is certainly a key aspect of the program, one that seems to warrant some serious thought, perhaps more than round corners or the $1s to unround, polygonalize or trianglize them.

Has anyone counted how many people approve of the new look or just don't care?

For my UI I will use Imageburgers if/when necessary. For programming in Max I don't care.

I would prefer *not* to have yet another user-selectable option. There are too many as it is.

Good UI design is not always about giving the user an insurmountable number of options, in many cases it's about making a decision and sticking to it.

There are obviously people who are passionately against the rounded corners and they may already be pulling out the napalm as we read this message. I would prefer to agree to disagree in peace, but if someone is determined to flame, ain't nothing gonna stop 'em.

i personally would just eliminate the rounded corners entirely, but i don't see why anyone would object to having it be a configurable option. if anything it just gives you additional interface capabilities. you may want to use both straight & rounded corners in the same patch to help group & organize similar functions in your interface.

but there is no question that max should ship with the corners straight by default, if for no other reason than to avoid the chaos that will ensue when you open a max 4 and earlier patches in max 5:

It's a disease, and no amount of medication or psychotherapy is going to help the fact that I like my MAX to be square and lined up. It's this thing me and Max got going, an understanding, a workflow. Max 5 threatens to ruin a 3 year relationship....
