It should output 0 (if input = 0) or 1 (if input is not equal to 0). But! A toggle outputs ANY input number including the toggle in help file! My version is 5.1.0 .

This is expected behaviour, and is documented in the help file:

int - The number is sent out the outlet. If the number is not 0, toggle displays an X, showing it is on. If it is 0, toggle is blank, showing it is off.

It doesn't say anything about the output being restricted to 1.

But if the output will be restricted to 1 in future versions, it would be better. Because that just bypass is quite useless for messages.

No the present behaviour is perfectly reasonable. Would you like a number box to restrict the value by default? toggle is like a number that simply shows if the value is to be interpreted as true (i.e. non-zero) or false (zero).

It may have made sense to design it to only pass 0&1 initially, but to change it now is a bad idea. There are 20 years of patches that might rely on its existing behavior.

if you are unhappy with the way it behaves, you could maybe create your own patcher with LCD and a bpatcher to act the way you wish on a click? i know its a long way to go for this though! or just have a [sel 0] after it, message {0} from the left outlet and a message {1} from the right?
