Tracking motion with Jitter

heym I’m helping out a friend with an installation, making a an patch controlled by camera input. It will be set up in a room, and it detect anyone’s peresence, and their movememt.
I’m familiar with tracking placement within the the frame, from going through tutorial 25-s colour tracking lesson, however is there an easy or recommended way to get a numberic value based on how much movement is occuring?
I guess I’ll have to set up input / output tolerances, so the patch knows what is static.
if you have any suggestions, it’d be great to hear
thanks

you could do some motion detection, by doing frame substraction and get the average of the output; that way you will know how much activity is going on , everything black : nothing is going on , the more white the more mvt…

this kind of approach has been extensively brought up on the forum, so maybe you have checked it out already.
good luck
